Life's No Picnic On The Street, 2008

The artist was invited by Depaul Ireland to work in their Homeless Project located in Dublin’s south inner city. Based in a 70-bed men’s homeless project July/August 2008, the artist provided workshops to residents, with an exhibition of their work onsite. In response this project the artist produced a video with three residents, with questions around future aspirations. The work was exhibited at the Music and Arts Festival, Electric Picnic in Co. Louis, Sept 2008, with a selection of chosen works produced by the residents. Collaborated with two other artists on this project. Work also exhibited at Filmbase, March 2009, followup video produced with original residents. Project has resulted in further workshops to be provide from July/Aug 2009, at other Depaul Ireland project.

Description: This film investigates the homeless community in Dublin. The film is based at the Backlane Project for the Homeless and discloses the stories of three members of the hostel, magnifying their secret ambitions and their existence. The artist spend a number of weeks at the hostel working with residents and was particularly interested in how they interact within the space of the project community and what their 'ideal' job would be.
